Magic is alive and well in Berkeley, California...

If you love supernatural suspense laced with humor and danger, you’ll love J.R. Mabry’s Berkeley Blackfriars' books. Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Preacher, The Dresden Files, and the Mercy Thompson series will thrill to these new paranormal fantasy adventures!
The Kingdom

Fr. Richard Kinney is having a crappy week. He’s not at all sure he’s the best leader for the demon-hunting Berkeley Blackfriars, he suspects he may have a drinking problem, and his boyfriend has just broken up with him. But when a violent demon possesses one of the richest men in the world, Richard doesn’t have time for self-pity.

Leaping into action, Richard and the Blackfriars soon discover that possession is just the tip of the iceberg. The tycoon’s son has hired a lodge of black magicians to carry out a nefarious experiment: Make every avocado in the world disappear. When that works, they ramp it up, eliminating every dog from existence.

Once they learn the terrible reason for the disappearances, Richard and the Blackfriars find themselves in a desperate race against time as the magicians try to eliminate their next target: every child on earth. To save the world’s next generation, they’ll have to put themselves in the line of fire instead.

The Power

Fr. Dylan has spent his entire adult life ducking responsibility. As far as he’s concerned, there’s no problem so big that a bong hit or two can’t fix.

But when the Spear of Destiny threatens every living soul and an army of the damned begins to gather on his doorstep, Dylan has to admit he’s met his match.

Then, when the Blackfriars’ prior disappears, all eyes turn to Dylan to lead them. Dylan can either step up or allow unspeakable evil to grind everything innocent and good underfoot…

The Glory

When Brian discovers Terry has cheated on him he is utterly devastated, and flees to San Francisco to sort through the rubble of his life…

When magicians open the gates of hell, the Blackfriars scramble to stop them from turning the East Bay into a nightmarish wasteland of torture and mayhem…

While everyone is looking the other way, a lone magician ascends through the planes of heaven with one mission in mind: kill God and bring the Kingdom of Heaven down in flames…

Wounded, bickering, and utterly incapable of handing the situation, the Blackfriars call on Brian to put things right. But if he’s not capable of even holding onto a boyfriend, how can he possibly muster the confidence needed to save heaven and earth?

The Berkeley Blackfriars series is some of the best and funniest urban fantasy I've ever read. They're hilarious, irreverent, and profound, and everyone should read them. —Tammi Labrecque
